Day 1: Airport–Negombo

A warm Welcome to Sri Lanka!

A representative of Coconut Tours will meet you at the airport and take you to your first stop on your Sri Lankan adventure – Negambo. You will be accommodated in a nice beach side hotel where you can spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the tropical sandy beach or take an evening city tour. The first night will be spent in Negambo.

Day 2: Negombo–Anuradhapura

After an early breakfast we will leave for Anuradhapura via Puttalam. Anuradhapura is one of the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka, famous for its well-preserved ruins of an ancient Sri Lankan civilization from the 4th Century BC. It’s also considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will tour the ancient capital and visit Sri Maha Bodhi, the oldest historically documented tree in the world. In the afternoon we will visit Mihintale, which is called the “Cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka”. Mihintale is the World’s first declared sanctuary from 247 B.C. and continues to be one up to this day. We will stay overnight in Anuradhapura.

Day 3: Anuradhapura–Habarana

In the morning we will leave Anuradhapura and head to Habarana. In Habarana we will go on an elephant safari where you can enjoy the lovely jungle surroundings and admire these magnificent creatures that stomp the earth. Our third night will be spend in Habarana.

Day 4: Habarana–Sigiriya–Dambulla–Habarana

We will start our day with the journey from Habarana to Sigiriya. Sigiriya is a 650 feet high rock fortress, a masterpiece of construction, artistry & irrigation. The world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya. It’s also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the afternoon we will head to Dambulla. The Golden Rock in Dambulla is a cave temple which dates back to the 1st Century BC. Its rock ceiling is one large sweep of colorful frescoes which depict Buddhist mythology and the tales of the Buddha's previous births. The caves house the largest collection of Buddha statues in one place. From Dambulla we will return to Habarana. We will stay overnight in Habarana.

Day 5: Habarana–Polonnaruwa

On the third day we will start our journey in the early morning. Our destination is Polonnaruwa. We will spend most of the day touring the medieval capital. In the evening we will visit a Wood carving Factory. Overnight stay in Polonnaruwa.

Day 6: Polonnaruwa–Trincomalee

In the morning we will head towards Trincomalee. The city and its surroundings are famous for its natural harbor. The day will be filled with sightseeing of many interesting sights such as koneswaramkovil and hot springs. We will spend the night in Trincomalee.

Day 7: Trincomalee

Our fifth day will be spend at Nilaveli beach. The each offer a variety of water sports including fishing, scuba diving, sea angling and exciting dolphin, shark and whale watching. We will spend the night in Trincomalee.

Day 8: Trincomalee–Pasikuda

In the morning we will leave Trincomalee and drive to Pasikuda. Pasikuda is a calm and paradise like beach town. You can enjoy the untouched nature, observe the local life and relax. We will spend our day swimming, sunbathing and enjoying the amazing food. We will spend the night here.

Day 9: Pasikuda–Mahiyanganaya–Kandy

After breakfast we will leave Pasikuda and head to Mahiyanganaya. Our goal is to see the native Sri Lankan tribes called Waddas. We will be able to observe their lifestyle. The tribes are known to maintain a traditional way of living like they used to live hundreds of years ago; hunting, handcrafts, surviving in the jungle and so much more are their everyday. In the evening we will proceed to Kandy for overnight stay.

Day 10: Kandy

Our morning on the 10th day will be relaxed. You will be able to sleep in, walk around the Kandy Lake or do some souvenir shopping (optional cooking class). In the evening a Cultural show awaits us in Kandy. We can witness the unique Kandyan dancing and drumming. After the show we will visit the Sri Dalada Maligawa - golden roofed temple of the sacred Tooth relic of the Buddha in time to witness the "pooja". We will spend the night in Kandy.

Day 11: Kandy

We will spend the day sightseeing in the picturesque hill capital of the Island: Kandy. We start our day with the visit of the elephant Orphanage in Pinnawala and take a look at Elephant museum at Millennium Elephant Foundation (Optional - elephant ride). We continue our day with the visit of the Botanical Garden. In the afternoon we will explore the city by itself with many interesting old temples, a historic museum, Traditional Handicraft and Gem factory and plenty of souvenir shops. Overnight stay in Kandy.

Day 12: Kandy–Kithulgala–Adams peak

In the morning we will continue our trip to Kithulgala. On our way we will stop at the nearby Tea factory to see how the world famous Ceylon tea is made. Kithulgala is famous for white water rafting in the Kelani River with encounters of grade 2 & 3 rapids and relaxing walks in the village. After getting all the equipment and safety instructions we will wake up the adventurous soul in us! It’s time for rafting! In the late afternoon we will drive to Adams peak and rest for a couple of hours. We will begin to climb Adams peak at night in order to arrive at the top in time to witness the magical sunrise with peak casting its mystic shadow on the Cloud Mountains below.

Day 13: Adams Peak–Nuwara Eliya

In the morning we will proceed to Nuwara Eliya. It’s time to admire the beautiful Tea carpeted uphill county scenery. On our way we will stop at two magnificent waterfalls, first called Devon waterfall and second one St. Clair waterfall. We will continue our sightseeing in Nuwara Eliya. There will be some free time in the evening. We will spend the night Nuwara Eliya.

Day 14: Nuwara Eliya–Ella

After breakfast it time for us to head to proceed to Nanuoya to take the Train to Ella. It’s an impressive and breathtaking train ride where you can admire the picturesque uphill country. Once arriving to Ella will be able to see waterfalls, trek up the hill called "Little Adams Peak" and visit "Ella rock". We will spend the night in Ella.

Day 15: Ella–Yala National Park

Today is the time for an amazing adventure – a safari tour by jeep at Yala National Park. It has one of the highest densities of Leopards in world and considering that it’s the best place in Asia to see one of them. Other large animals that live there and we might see are: Elephants, Sloth Bears, mugger Crocodiles, Spotted deer, sambhurs, deer, Wild Boars, Reptiles and a big diversity of birds. The safari is followed by an overnight stay in Yala. (Instead of spending the night in a guest house you have the option of sleeping in a tree house or camp in the jungle).

Day 16: Yala–Matara–Marissa

In the morning we will continue our trip. Our first stop is Matara which historically belongs to the area that is called Ruhuna. It was one of the three kingdoms in Sri Lanka. In the 16th and 18th centuries, Matara was ruled by the Portuguese and the Dutch respectively. The culture and architecture can still be seen in the area. In Matara we will visit the Parey Duwa Buddhist Temple that is situated on a small island and connected to the land with a bridge. In the afternoon we will head to Mirissa. Overnight stay in Mirissa.

Day 17: Mirissa

Mirissa is a breathtaking sandy beach that pretty much transforms your dreams and visions of a tropical paradise into an everyday reality. We will spend the day relaxing and the beach. There is an option of whale and dolphin watching by request. The night will be spend in Mirissa.

Day 18: Mirissa–Galle–Unawatuna

After breakfast we proceed with our journey on the southern coast. We will stop in Galle. The city is famous by its Dutch Fortress. We will take a walk around it, admire the diversity of architectural styles and climb on the wall to see the fort conquering the waves of the Indian Ocean. Our last stop of the day is Unawatuna, declared the most beautiful beach in Sri Lanka. Time for swimming and other water activities! Just before the sunset we can climb the nearby hill to visit the temple on the top of the cliffs and admire the beautiful sunset. Night in Unawatuna.

Day 19: Unawatuna–Hikkaduwa

It’s time to rest and enjoy the amazing tropical beach with the golden sand and the high green palm trees. Who wants a king coconut and take a dip in the Indian Ocean? Or maybe grab a surf boat and ride the magnificent waves? Maybe you would like to snorkel or dive? You have the whole day to enjoy and relax. We will spend the night in Hikkaduwa.

Day 20: Hikkaduwa–Bentota

In the morning we will leave Hikkaduwa and drive up to Bentota. The small town is famous for its turtle hatcheries and we will visit one of them to see how they take care of the turtles and learn something new about the nature. The visit is followed by a Lagoon boat ride. In the afternoon we will have time to enjoy the tropical sandy beach. Most of the water spots are available in this area. We will spend our last night in Bentota.

Day 21: Bentota–Colombo

After breakfast our van will pick us up and we will continue our way to Colombo or the Airport. (Depending on your request you can stay in the beach area. Drop-offs at other places are also available.)
